Leadership Profile
Avinash Naidu is a highly accomplished Senior Project Manager and Engineer with over two decades of proven experience delivering complex, high-value infrastructure and mining projects across Australia and internationally. Holding a Bachelor of Engineering, a Diploma in Business Management, and professional memberships with Engineers Australia and the Australian Institute of Project Management, Avinash brings both the technical depth and leadership acumen that major projects demand.
His career spans some of the world’s most recognised resource and infrastructure organisations BHP, Rio Tinto, Newcrest Mining, MMG, Alcoa, and Coliban Water giving him a rare breadth of expertise across mining, civil infrastructure, water and wastewater treatment, processing plants, and non-process infrastructure. Most recently, Avinash served as Senior Project Manager for the construction of the new $150 million Dubbo Bridge for Transport NSW a landmark 663-metre, 20-span high-level bridge over the Macquarie River, representing one of regional NSW’s most significant infrastructure investments in recent years. His oversight encompassed planning, budgeting, procurement, stakeholder engagement with Transport NSW, contract administration under GC21 conditions, and monthly reporting on claims averaging $7–8 million per month.
Prior to that, Avinash held the role of Engineering Manager at Alcoa, leading the design and development of a $255 million Residue Filtration Plant a complex, multi-discipline project spanning electrical, mechanical, structural, process, and control systems. At MMG’s Rosebery Zinc Mine in Tasmania, he managed critical tailings storage facility studies and site investigations, coordinating with federal and state environmental agencies to progress long-term infrastructure solutions for the mine.
His BHP career is particularly extensive. Across BHP Nickel West, BHP Olympic Dam, and BHP Coal, Avinash led infrastructure and asset management programs, delivered tailings monitoring systems across five Queensland coal mine sites, and contributed to a $1 billion smelter campaign maintenance project at Roxby Downs. Earlier in his BHP tenure, he served as Project Superintendent on a $2.5 billion greenfield Nickel Plant project in Western Australia, overseeing the construction of all site infrastructure from tailing dams and evaporation ponds to camp accommodation for 3,000 personnel delivered safely, on time, and under budget.
At Rio Tinto’s North Parkes copper mine and Newcrest’s Telfer gold and copper operation, Avinash demonstrated consistent excellence in capital project delivery managing dewatering systems, HV electrical installations, tailing dam lifts, and major earthworks consistently meeting safety, quality, schedule, and cost targets across multiple financial years.
Earlier in his career, Avinash worked in New Zealand and Melbourne on design-and-construct EPCM projects across pharmaceutical, dairy processing, and industrial facilities, developing a strong foundation in multi-discipline engineering that has underpinned his project leadership ever since.
Whether steering a $150 million public infrastructure project or navigating the technical complexity of a remote mine site, Avinash Naidu delivers results safely, efficiently, and with the stakeholder confidence that comes from a career built on integrity and performance.
